RACE DESCRIPTION:
The USATF Certified 5 Mile loop course begins on South Pier Road and finishes in the parking lot of the Pier Middle School.


RACE INFO:
The race will support The Bobby Doyle Scholarships awarded to a male and female Rhode Island high school runner. In addition to awarding two $1000 scholarships to high school seniors, significant donations were made in 2008 to the Narragansett High School track team, the Providence Cobras Track Club, the Seekonk Newman YMCA, and the Smithfield Sentinal Striders.


PRIZES:
Cash prizes ($400, $250, $150, $100, $50) to the top 5 men and women overall. Awards to the top 3 men and women in the following age categories: High School (18 & under); Open (19-39), Master (40-49), Senior (50-59), Veteran (60-69), Grand Veteran (70+), and to the 1st male & female Walker. Course Records: Mathew Kiplagat 24:21 (2009) and Mary Cullen 26:14 (2008) Course Bonus Prize: $500 to the male/female each setting a new course record. “King of the Road” / “Queen of the Road” Competition Commemorative jackets to the top Rhode Island High School boy and girl. High School Team Competition Prizes awarded to the top High School Teams (Boys/Girls); scoring based on the fastest time of the top three members. Special Award to the High School teams (Boys and Girls) with the most number of finishers. 2010 graduates are eligible for these awards.

DIRECTIONS:
From Providence, take 95 S to Exit 9 (N. Kingstown) Rte. 4. Follow Rte. 4 for 10 miles to curve to right onto Rte. 1 S. Follow Rte. 1 S for 8 miles to Narragansett Exit. Turn left at end of ramp to rotary. Bear right and follow Rte. 108 south for 2-tenths mile to left at light onto South Pier Rd. Pier Middle School is .5 mile on left. From the South, take US Route 1 North to the Narragansett/Point Judith exit, turn right onto Woodruff Ave., Woodruff becomes South Pier Road. Continue through the traffic light at Route 108 to the Pier Middle School.


ADDITIONAL INFO:
Bobby Doyle, Rhode Island’s marathon king, began his legendary running career at Hope High School in 1966, becoming the state’s premier high school distance runner. At the University of Texas, El Paso, Bobby earned All-American honors as a member of the 1969 NCAA Division I Cross Country Championship Team. Other career highlights: -Boston Marathon: 5th 1985, 7th 1979, 12th 1978 -Represented the USA at the 1979 Pan American Games in Puerto Rico -7-time winner of the Ocean State Marathon - Competed in the 1980 and 1984 Olympic Marathon Trials - Won numerous marathons spanning three decades – a world record
